While it should not generally be a question that gifts which are to be exchanged be of equal value, somehow the appropriateness of one's gift should be taken into consideration. Obama's gift to PM Gordon Brown fails to meet the appropriateness standard. But then, think about it, doesn't Pinocchio singing "When You Wish Upon a Star?" say it all about this president? Or was the singer Jimminey Cricket, I no longer care much less remember? Our presidential putz. This article was taken from today's Monday Brief - Vol. 09, No. 10 found at http://patriotpost.us/.
THE LAST WORD
"British prime minister Gordon Brown thought long and hard about what gift to bring on his visit to the White House last week. Barack Obama is the first African-American president, so the prime minister gave him an ornamental desk-pen holder hewn from the timbers of one of the Royal Navy's anti-slaving ships of the 19th century, HMS Gannet. Even more appropriate, in 1909 the Gannet was renamed HMS President. The president's guest also presented him with the framed commission for HMS Resolute, the lost British ship retrieved from the Arctic and returned by America to London, and whose timbers were used for a thank-you gift Queen Victoria sent to Rutherford Hayes: the handsome desk that now sits in the Oval Office. And, just to round things out, as a little stocking stuffer, Gordon Brown gave President Obama a first edition of Sir Martin Gilbert's seven-volume biography of Winston Churchill. In return, America's head of state gave the prime minister 25 DVDs of 'classic American movies.' Evidently, the White House gift shop was all out of 'MY GOVERNMENT DELEGATION WENT TO WASHINGTON AND ALL I GOT WAS THIS LOUSY T-SHIRT' T-shirts. Still, the 'classic American movies' set is a pretty good substitute, and it can set you back as much as $38.99 at Wal-Mart." --columnist Mark Steyn
"On every unauthoritative exercise of power by the legislature must the people rise in rebellion or their silence be construed into a surrender of that power to them? If so, how many rebellions should we have had already?" -- Thomas Jefferson, Notes on Virginia, Query 12, 178

ReplyDeleteSuch a gift is pure shit - classless; utterly NO CLASS.
Having played street ball with blacks, I know how EXACTLY HOW THEY WOULD describe the gift (or him, the giver!). As a white dude, I wont' say it so as not to even appear racist, since I abhor racism and an form of prejudice which goes both against charity and for that matter, reason itself.
Having said that: let's check the adjective form:
adjective
1 a -------- person cheap, mean, miserly, parsimonious, close-fisted, penny-pinching, cheeseparing, grasping, ungenerous, illiberal; informal stingy, tight, tightfisted. antonym generous.
2 -------- rations meager, inadequate, scanty, scant, skimpy, paltry, sparse, insufficient, deficient, short, lean, small, slender, poor, miserable, pitiful, puny; informal measly, stingy, pathetic, piddling. antonym lavish, abundant.
BUT DON'T WORRY - OBAMA IS NOT MISERY WITH YOUR MONEY! Proof the "Graft Bill" (sometimes called the 'Stimulus' bill). [ Remember, Satan is the 'father of lies'. The name 'Stimulus' bill is a real doozy!" Heck, don't these losers spend your & my money have ANY SENSE OF SHAME ??? Naw… they don't… ]
